Agriculture is an exciting growth industry, but prices are off the record peaks. How did we get here and where are we going into the last half of 2023 and into the future?

Steve Elmore, Chief Economist, Corteva

Steve is the Chief Economist at Corteva Agriscience. 

He started in Pioneer Hi-Bred nearly 25 years ago. While at the heritage company, DuPont, Steve was part of the team that won the USAToday outstanding economic forecasters, and the prestigious Lawrence R. Klein Award for Blue Chip Forecasting Accuracy, the only three-time winner of the award. He also led the economics panel that formed the foundation for the development of what is now known as the Corteva Food Security Index by working with the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

Steve has presented and consulted with farmers, business people, and policymakers in every continent except for Antarctica.  Steve accompanied Governor Terry Branstad (IA) on a trade mission to Brazil in 2012.  Currently, he serves on the Kansas City Federal Reserve’s Ag & Food Roundtable, the Chicago Federal Reserve’s Iowa Economic Roundtable, and the U.S. Congressional Budget Office agricultural baseline committee. 

Prior to coming to Corteva, Steve worked for the Food & Agricultural Policy Research Institute (FAPRI) at Iowa State University.  During his time at FAPRI they conducted analysis that led to the 1995 Farm Bill, GATT, and NAFTA.  He also was on the Iowa Economic Forecasting Council which set the foundation of the State of Iowa’s budget process.  When he left ISU, he had over 20 publications to his name. 

Steve grew up in rural Nebraska and now lives in the Des Moines, Iowa area with his wife and their two sons.
