This farmer-focused event features Adam Daugherty and Lloyd Murdock. Adam will share "why's" in his journey assisting producers into dynamic managers of higher functioning ecological production systems. Lloyd will share how productivity of fragipan soil can be improved with annual ryegrass.

Speakers:

Adam Daugherty, Tennessee NRCS

WHY, WHY, WHY and HOW: ORDER IS IMPERATIVE TO SUCCESS

Since 2013, Coffee County, TN NRCS District Conservationist Adam Daugherty has been working on transitioning long term no-till producers into dynamic managers of higher functioning ecological production systems. Along this journey many operations have made exponential strides to resource rejuvenation, while other may not have achieved the same levels of success. Adam will share through his experience that the underlying denominator was not the "how" but rather the "why's"  and how the strategic order of these principles can lead towards or derail success.

 Lloyd Murdock, University of Kentucky

IMPROVING FRAGIPAN SOILS WITH ANNUAL RYEGRASS

Emeritus Professor with the University of Kentucky, Lloyd Murdock, has devoted the last few years finding a method that will break down the fragipan (cement-like layer in the soil that creates shallow soils with limited yield potential due to lower water-holding capacity) and make fragipan soils more productive. Lloyd will share how annual ryegrass has improved productivity of limited fragipan soils as well as ways to successfully incorporate annual ryegrass into a cropping system.
